Katherine G. Gettys has almost 30 years’ experience as an attorney in the Midlands area. She was born in Columbia, raised in the Upstate, and is a graduate of the public-school system. She attended Wofford College, then transferred to Erskine College, where in 1986 she was graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in history. From 1986 to 1989, Katherine attended the University of South Carolina School of Law. In 1989, she was graduated with a J.D. degree, was admitted to the South Carolina Bar, and remains a member in good standing.

Following law school, Katherine served as judicial law clerk for two years to the Honorable Carol Connor, the state’s first female Circuit Court Judge. Katherine then gained valuable trial experience representing hundreds of individuals over the next four years in General Sessions Court as a public defender in both Richland and Lexington Counties. From 1995 to 2014, she worked as an assistant general counsel in state government where she handled cases before state and federal administrative entities and in the administrative law, circuit, probate, and family courts, and managed the procurement division of a large agency.

Over her career, Katherine has successfully represented clients in probate, civil, criminal, and family law cases and state government officials in employment, contracts and leases, business, finance, licensing, constitutional law, administrative law, and Freedom of Information Act matters.

After retiring from state government practice in 2014, Katherine opened Gettys Law Firm LLC. For the past five years, she has focused her practice exclusively in probate, estate, and related matters.
